NICKNAME : Other than the typical Riles, or Ry/Ri, there really is no other nickname that Riley goes by. She's had a few people try to call her Ann, which is her middle, and she promptly yells at them for it since she doesn't really care for her middle name.
ALIAS : Valora, which translates to courageous which is the same thing Riley translate to as well.
AGE : 38 years old
BIRTHDATE : October 19th, 1940
APPEARANCE : Standing at an average height of 5 foot 2 inches, Riley is more so on the short end like most of her family. She makes up for her height with her long, thick brown hair which she wears in either long braids or in large loose, bouncy curls. Her hair is what she considers to be her best feature, and she takes care of it to the best of her ability. Like her mother, Riley has soft facial features with a strong jaw line. Her eyes are a soft shade of brown like her father's and she has soft, full lips like her mother. She has a few lines that show on her face in her skin when she frowns, showing where she might end up getting wrinkles later on in life. The only unique think about her face is her left eyebrow which is broken in the middle which she got from walking into a table when she was younger and still trying to learn how to walk.
The rest of Riley's body is pretty much like any other woman's body at her age. She isn't overly large or anything in one spot, and her body has filled out generously over the years. She has a light covering of freckles that travel all over the course of her arms and face although they're not as noticeable as they are on some people. Riley cares little though about her appearance. Unlike many women of nowadays, Riley doesn't focus all of her time on her appearance. Sure she does sometimes pay a little attention to her hair to make it decent looking, and sure she accents her facial structure with make-up but most of the time, she stays away from that kind of stuff. She prefers her natural beauty, even if others don't.
ATTIRE : Riley doesn't really have many clothes to wear. Most of the time, she wears dark pants and a light colored top, usually one that's more comfortable than flattering. Most of the few shirts she has are slightly bigger than her and sometimes she has to tie them up in the back, or curl up the sleeves enough so she can use her hands. A good majority of shirts, in fact, come from her cousin so it's not hard to imagine that they're a bit large on her. With the little pay she gets, Riley hasn't had the chance to buy her own clothes yet, so she took her cousin's old clothes instead, which make her look smaller than she really is. On cold days, Riley wears a large, ragged brown jacket that goes down to a few inches from her knees, and she sometimes pairs this with a pair of dark purple gloves depending on how cold it is. She almost always wears large dirt boots that she got from her cousin as well, and pairs them with a pair of skin tight dark green pants, which she wears no matter how cold or warm it is outside.
Her costume is the one piece of her clothes that she was able to pick out herself. The top sleeveless, and is held together in the front with strings, and has two black stripes going from the top underneath her arms to the bottom of the shirt. It's a little bit smaller than a normal shirt, allowing for a thin strip of skin from her stomach to show, which is about as revealing as most of her tops go. The pants are long, with the same black strips going down the sides of her legs. They're also held together with strings in the front, and the top sports a belt clip with the letter 'V'' on it. Her short height is changed up by the three inch heels of her boots, which sport the same black and silver design with a majority of the boot being black and the silver only really showing around the pointed tip. She completes her costume with silver wrist bands and her mask which wraps around her head underneath her hair and covers only along the sides of her head as well as along her eyes with two slots for her eyes so she can see out. Most of the time when she's in costume, Riley has her hair in thick, long and loose curls which gives her a larger appearance than before.
PLAY BY : Holly Marie Combs
AFFILIATION : Independent
OCCUPATION : She works a side job at a local restaurant in Queens as a waitress, working mostly during the day which leaves her alias form to be shown during the night hours when she's more awake.
EQUIPMENT : Riley doesn't really keep anything with her. When she's in need of a weapon, she uses what's around her which most of the time consists of poles and other sharp or heavy objects. She does sometimes keep a flashlight with her, but most of the time she leaves it at home since she likes the dark more.
PERSONALITY : Riley, more than anything, is a nice, polite person. Most of the time though, she keeps her feelings neutral although she usually keeps up the polite act. Riley doesn't show her feelings first off the bat, and usually keeps those feelings bottled up until she's ready to explode which has happened sometimes in the past. Riley is a bit of a hothead when forced enough, and isn't one to get over things easily. She's a soft-hearted person, so when someone does hurt her, she takes it pretty badly, and doesn't forgive easily. Riley hardly ever cries in front of others either, so when she does, it usually means that whatever has hurt her has hurt her pretty badly. Sometimes though, instead of making her cry, her feelings divert and make her really angry and pissed off which can be a bit dangerous if she's pressured enough.
On the other hand though, Riley is rather blunt which isn't always nice or polite. She has a tendency to speak before her mind gets completely wrapped around her thoughts, and she has a tendency to also make rather bold moves before completely thinking them through. This has sometimes played into her fights, but not as much as it does with her ability to get along with people. Because of her lack of ability to think before speaking, Riley tends to push others away, especially those that she actually cares about. She's tried to think before she speaks, but sometimes her mind just doesn't keep up fast enough, and she ruins things before they're even started.
One of the few nice things about Riley is that she isn't quick to judge others especially by appearance or personality. She tends to give them a chance to show their true colors before she decides whether or not to waste her time with them. It's because of this, that Riley doesn't know if someone is bad for her until it's too late. Riley doesn't like to base her feelings for someone off of something as simple as appearance, and likes giving that person a chance to deem themselves in her eyes before she decides. She just thinks it's proper and it's her way of giving them a chance, which is different than most people.
SKILLS : Her ability to see semi-well in the dark is one of her most dominant skills. The ability is one that she almost always uses and finds to be one of the most beneficial things she's ever had. She's also gifted in martial arts from the seven years that her father put her through classes before she became too busy to keep up with the classes. She also knows basic archery, which she learned in personal lessons from her father. Riley also considers herself a pretty good runner, but whether or not that's true nowadays, she's not completely positive.
STRENGTHS : Riley's ability to see in the dark semi-well is a top strength in her book. Her knowledge in not only martial arts but hand-to-hand combat in general is another one of her many strengths, not to mention her archery skills. Riley's stamina is also somewhat high, but she's not the type to keep going after say forty-eight hour fight. She's also highly observant, and could easily be considered a people watcher. Riley is literally the type of person that would sit along the sideline and just watch people. That's how she learns what person is best to avoid and which one isn't.
WEAKNESSES : Her lack of ability to allow anyone to help her can sometimes be her downfall. Riley works better alone and it's because of that, that she's so hesitant about allowing anyone to join her for her anything. She also has a tendency to speak or act without really thinking. She's a rather blunt person, and it's because of this that she doesn't work well with others. It's that side of her that tends to scare others away and leaves her to work on her own which is how she prefers it. Unlike when she was younger, Riley isn't as physically active as she was. She can't run as fast as she could then, but if forced to, she can get going if say her life depended on it. Riley also lacks the ability to kill, but that goes for humans and animals, and can sometimes leave her vulnerable.
RESIDENCE : Riley lives with her cousin, Travis, in his two bedroom apartment. Riley pays rent while living there through her pay check which leaves little room for her to buy anything for herself.
FAMILY : Richard Mallory [Father, dead], Jessica Mallory [Mother, dead], Rebbecca Mallory [Older sister, living], Robert Mallory [younger brother, dead], Travis Livingston [Cousin, living].
HISTORY : Riley was the second daughter and child born to Jessica and Richard Mallory. The couple, with a five year old daughter, weren't really expecting another daughter but they kept her anyways. Riley learned in the beginning though, that her sister wasn't a nice person to be around. Rebbecca, being the first child, was spoiled beyond any level, and Riley was usually the one left to take her hand-me-downs which included clothes that were too large for her small frame at the time. Rebbecca constantly teased and tormented Riley, but their parents refused to believe Riley whenever she told them how rude Rebbecca was to her. Riley realized then that maybe she couldn't rely on her parents or anyone to do anything for here.
Three years later, Riley's parents had another child, a son this time which was what they were expecting. Riley was the one though that was pushed aside. Since her parents had the family they wanted, they didn't want Riley around anymore and for some time, considered her to be the unwanted one but that all changed when Riley was six years old. Her brother was suffering from a terrible cold that was destroying his little body. Since he was only three years old, his body wasn't fully ready to take on something of this magnitude and he passed away in his mother's arms that night. Jessica and Richard were destroyed at the loss of their son and instead, put all of their hopes and dreams into Riley since they no longer had Robert. Riley felt welcomed once more by her parents, and accepted everything they gave her.
Now, Richard himself had always been a fan of the Guardsmen, and always wanted to be like them, but after breaking his hip when Riley was ten, he realized he couldn't and so decided that Riley would be what he always wanted to be. On her thirteenth birthday, Richard gave her the present of private martial arts lessons with an old friend of his. Although Riley didn't really care to learn martial arts, she took the classes anyways, not wanting to hurt her father's feelings. As the years wore on though, she fell in love with the classes, and learned as much as she could. Her father even took to teaching her archery in private, wanting his daughter to be the best so that she could join when she was old enough.
The lessons stopped though, when Riley was twenty. Richard passed away three weeks after her twentieth birthday, and with that, so did her lessons. Jessica was lost after the death of her husband, and although she tried to keep a handle on her family, it was hard. Rebbecca never stayed home as much as she used to, and was almost always found with another older man by Jessica. Riley tried to help her mother, but it was just too much for Jessica, and so she committed suicide from the pressure a few weeks prior to Riley's twenty-first birthday. Riley tried to keep a hold on her family and lived with her sister for a good majority of the time, but she dreamed of leaving home and going further into the city where she could actually find a job and a home of her own.
When she was thirty-five, Riley finally moved out of her parents home, tired of being around Rebbecca and all of her older men. She moved in with her cousin Travis who had been trying to provide for her while she was back at her old home. Since she didn't have much to bring with her, Travis gave her all of his old things which included his clothes although they were considerably large on her. Riley figured that she would need to get her own things eventually, and so set out to find a job which she did. She found a waitress job at a local cafe where she could work during the day. During the night though, she took over her cousin's spot of watching over the city. Since he had been a costumed person as well without telling her, Riley had found it as a shock when she did find out. He told her though, that he couldn't keep up with it anymore, and so she took over his spot a few weeks after coming to his house. Now, three years later, Riley is still working independently of the Guardsmen, finding that it was easier than taking her cousin's spot within their group.
