NICKNAME : N/A
ALIAS : L
AGE : 28
BIRTHDATE : October 21, 1948
APPEARANCE : Luke is in no way a puny man. He stands at 6'5 and has a broad chest. Even though he spends most of his time in a lab, his physique is muscled from hours in the gym and morning runs. His complexion is usually tan since from the sun exposure he gets on his runs. The only distinguishing mark on his body is a birth-mark on the right side of his lower back. When he walks or sits, his posture is upright, never slumping. His hands are large, but soft from never knowing manual labor.
His dirty-blonde hair is generally kept tidy and short. He generally has a scruffy goatee and mustache, but try as he might, it never thickens up mast the kind of facial hair one would see on a teen. He has a pair of full lips on his face, a sharp nose, a set of beautiful baby blue eyes, and the same high cheekbones as his sister. His teeth are straight and white, and he usually shows them off with wide smiles.
ATTIRE : Luke generally wears a white or blue dress shirt with a black tie and slacks. His only shoes are loafers. He never wears 'casual' wear. The closest thing to 'casual' in his wardrobe are a pair of khakis and a sweater. He tends to be a bit old-fashioned in his clothing; he's not looking to follow any crazy trend. Luke generally believes that appearance is the determining factor in any first encounter, and he tries to play that to his advantage. At work, he simply puts a white lab coat over his civilian clothing, and if going into a lab with hazardous bacteria or viruses, he will don a full-body lab suit. When he goes out as L, he wears a black raincoat, loafers, a dark suit, a neatly pressed white collared shirt, and a black necktie. His hair is parted down the middle, and he can strike someone as a very forgettable face. This is just so that if any policeman come sniffing around, L will be hard to remember...Until the time is right. At night, he wears boxer shorts and a satin bath robe to bed.
PLAY BY : Leonardo DiCaprio
AFFILIATION : Villain
OCCUPATION : Weapons Developer for the chemical weapons plant of Davon Enterprise, New York.
EQUIPMENT : Since Luke usually has his lab coat either on or draped over his arm, he always has some stoppered vials in his pockets, as well as sterile syringes with covered needles. He has set up a small sterile lab in his home, where he can tinker and experiment as he wishes. In this environment he can cultivate and store viruses.
The only item qualifying as a real weapon that he has is a long rod that was patented as an 'Electronic rodent exterminator' by Joesph R. Dye in 1977. It has a curved handle, like an umbrella, and emits electronic shock through the opposite end. Luke, upon seeing it in a rat exterminator's shop window, was fascinated by it, purchased it, and had a friend tinker with the voltage. He keeps one in the umbrella stand by his front door, and another disguised as an umbrella which he carries to work.
PERSONALITY : Luke likes to prove himself as a man of worth. He usually does this by showing off: nice clothes for the daily grind, a couple rounds for the whole bar, and if he can't get a woman for free, he gets the most expensive lady of the night he can find. Luke has excessive pride and arrogance; everyone else is stupid or, at best, requires patronization. He uses his smooth-talking trait on people of either characteristics. When Luke does things like buying a round or even sleeping with a high priced prostitute, his pride makes sure that those involved know that he is Luke Caldwell. He wants all the credit that is due to him. He feels superior to people who have less education than he does, and does not tolerate people with a religious mindset. He feels like the shepherd has pulled the wool over their eyes, and he will not listen to their blathering.
Luke does not trust easily. Since childhood, he does not remember having a single best friend or confidant. He has always stuck to himself, and no one else. Part of this may sprout from the resentment he harbors for his family. He resents his mother and father for giving so much of their attention and visible love to his older siblings, and he resents Annabel for being a recipient of their love. To keep things civil, he does spend holidays like Christmas and Thanksgiving with his parents, but the last time he saw or spoke to Annabel was his graduation from Mount Sinai about six years ago. This doesn't bother him, but a part of him says, "If you can't trust your family, who can you trust?" As for people he may hire as cronies or goons, he counts on the money to buy their loyalty. If not, he'll take care of it.
He could be described as a big, spoiled child. Luke wants what he wants when he wants it. He believes he deserves everything he should want after going for so long in his life without being doted on. He is willing to do whatever it is to achieve his goals, and after some long and hard thinking, he knows that when it comes to killing to obtain his happiness, he will do it. Whoever gets in the way only has themselves to blame. Luke believes that it is survival of the fittest, and he is the one who will be the most fit.
SKILLS : Has a bachelor's degree in both biology and chemistry (he double majored), and a master's in microbiology. Microbiology is the study of microorganisms, ranging from fungi to viruses. Luke's specialty in microbiology lies in virology, which branches into discovering how to exploit and manipulate viruses. Luke also takes a kick-boxing class twice a week at his local gym, and knows enough to handle himself with multiple assailants. Using his charm and smile, he can be quite a persuasive smooth talker.
STRENGTHS : Luke knows how to manipulate microorganisms to his advantage, and knows how to store them and transfer them into various states. His kickboxing class enables him to ward off any muggers or pickpockets. Luke has developed a smooth-talking manner in the recent years, christening himself as a ladies man, he can be very persuasive.
WEAKNESSES : While Luke does have experience with kickboxing, he would not be able to hold his own for very long against an assailant who had thorough training in hand-to-hand combat. He's allergic to dust, pet dandruff, pollen, and wool. He has developed a rather large ego over the years, which causes him to act cocky and very forward. The only reason that he has an alias is that he is not ready to reveal the world who he is until everything is in place.
RESIDENCE : Luke has a penthouse on the upper west side of Manhattan, looking over central part. It has an entryway with a highly glossed dark wooden floor and potted plants lining the walls. The living room has a large TV set, a large piece of pop art featuring a blond woman, a couch, armchair, and coffee table. In the corner of the living room is a fully stocked bar. The kitchen is separated from the living room by a breakfast bar, at which two stools sit. The kitchen has the latest in cooking and refrigeration technology, and several stainless steel pans hangs above the range. They're mostly for looks, as Luke doesn't really cook. A hallway leads to the bathroom, small office, and bedroom. The office is sealed off from the rest of the house much in the way that the bacterial labs at Davon Enterprise are sealed off. It is in this sterile environment that Luke brings his work home and develops whatever he wishes.
FAMILY : Matthew Caldwell (Father, living), Margaret Caldwell (Mother, living), William Caldwell (Older brother, deceased), Annabel Caldwell (Older sister, living).
HISTORY : Luke Caldwell was born in the autumn of 1948 to Matthew and Margaret Caldwell. He was the younger brother of the twins Annabel and William, and the baby of the family. Since Annabel and William had five years to bond and grow close before his arrival, Luke was not very close with his older siblings growing up. His allergies also prevented him from joining in on the adventures that the twins had until the police and their father put a stop to that. Even after the twins were put under house arrest, Luke never grew close to them. For one thing, his sister seemed to be enamored with bible study, and Luke was not. William was very loud and abrasive, Luke was more passive. Most of Luke's childhood was spent in his bedroom, tinkering with a magnifying glass and later a chemistry set. The study of cells fascinated him, as well as the science of life. He worked hard the summer before his tenth birthday cutting lawns, pulling weeds, and running errands to save up enough for a microscope. He then ran around collecting small samples to make slides of at first, like leaves or different hair samples, but eventually he moved onto things like taking samples from human, dog, and cat saliva, and watching the dyed blue cells move and wriggle until they died underneath his microscope. His parents didn't seem to care much about his passion, and thus began his life-long resentment towards his family.
When Luke entered his awkward adolescent phase, he did learn a bit of William's ways and abandoned his hobby of looking under his microscope and tinkering. William was very suave with the girls, but always treated them with respect. Luke picked up on his brother's smoothness, but decided to drop the 'respect' part; it seemed like too much work. Luke was working on his third girlfriend in two months when the spit hit the fan with not only William but Annabel as well. All attention was diverted to his 'strayed' brother and sister, and to make up for the attention he wasn't getting at home, Luke found comfort in the arms of any girl that would take him. He was only fourteen or so, but a cocky and confident young man who had a sudden growth spurt and found his height reaching beyond the six foot mark. With this handy height, he ditched afternoon classes frequently to chase after 'older women,' older being eighteen and up that frequented super markets or burger restaurants. When his parents found out, he was barred from leaving the house and pressed hard to do his studies., which was lucky because his grades had suffered due to his carefree excursions. Being confined to his home, he once more pulled out his microscope and chemistry set.
It was then that Luke decided he was going to major in either biology or chemistry. He took the top courses in his high school in all the sciences, earned scholarships and grants, and was accepted into Columbia University, where he decided that he couldn't choose between chemistry and biology, so he double majored. The awarded funds were only enough to cover tuition and books, so Luke was displeased to learn that he still had to live with his parents and commute to school every day. This filled him with a sort of resentment: his parents had paid for Annabel's schooling until she left the house, yet they wouldn't contribute to Luke's education. When studies hit him hard and he needed to blow off steam, he would tell his parents that he was studying late at the library and go into bars with his fake ID or hit the 'night clubs' that were really covers for brothels. He was tired of his father's worn religion being crammed down his throat, and Luke was out to make sure not one bit of it stuck.
Luke graduated from Columbia with honors and turned to the Mount Sinai School of Medicine which was also located in Manhattan for graduate school. He decided to major in microbiology, which would enable him to study the microscopic life that had interested him so greatly when he was young. With his entrance to graduate school, he also gained a paid internship with the New York Research Institute's biology division. With his first paycheck, he moved out of his parents' house and into an apartment with three co-workers. Since that time, Luke has only seen his parents on holidays or the odd encounter in the street.
He was watched closely at his internship, but at school he got the opportunity to fiddle with bacteria and viruses as part of his graduate work. He was amazed at the ease with which he manipulated the organisms to either infect others, or do something of worth. Luke always had dreams of grandeur, and he began dreaming of threatening the world with viruses that he could cultivate to get everything he every wanted: money, cars, women. These were just idle daydreams until a few weeks before his graduation, a pair of crooks kidnapped the mayor and held him for ransom. They ended up getting five-hundred thousand dollars and a passage out of the country. Luke saw that with the right leverage, he could make his dreams come true. When he received his Master's degree, he applied for a position at Davon Enterprise's chemical weapons division and received it. Not only would he gain access to a wealth of bacteria, but also the means to disperse it, and the needed salary to get things running for himself.
Since he has begun working for Davon Enterprise, he has moved into his own apartment, and still hangs around in bars. Through the bars, he has met enough people of ill character to be able to pay them into being his cronies, using only the alias of 'L' as means of contact. He is not shy about his identity, but will not 'lift the curtain' until everything is set and ready. With the sterile room that he has outfitted in his apartment, Luke has developed several compounds. The latest, which he finished developing in the summer of 1978, is what he believes to be his golden ticket to all of his dreams coming true.
